In conversation with Maria Tumarkin at Readings Hawthorn

Events, News

I’ll be having a discussion with Maria Tumarkin about writing essays and writing old age at Readings Hawthorn on Tuesday 19 July at 6.30pm. Please come along.

Melanie Joosten’s A Long Time Coming is a call for empathy in a society that valorises youth and self-reliance – a profound reminder that everyone has the right to be old. Come along to hear her chat about the book with author Maria Tumarkin.

Free, but please book here.

Are we old and worthless?

Events, News

As we age, how do we stay healthy? Are we a burden to the community? What cost quality aged care? What is a good death?

This panel discusses the political, philosophical and social aspects to be considered around these and other ageing and end-of-life issues.

I’ll be speaking alongside Mark Butler (Advanced Australia), Johannes Klabbers (I Am Here: stories from a cancer ward) and Agnes Nieuwenhuizen at the Woodend Winter Arts Festival.
